Pepsi joined Monsanto to Defeat GMO Labeling - Boycott Pepsi Now!

Last year several major food companies made a fatal brand error by betting against the American people. During the 2012 election, major food and pesticide companies donated more than $46 million to run a ruthlessly deceptive campaign to defeat Prop 37, a ballot initiative to label genetically engineered foods in California.

Coming in as the #3 top donor, behind pesticide and biotech giants Monsanto and DuPont, was PepsiCo, the conglomerate beverage and junk food company who dumped in a total of $2,485,400 to deny Americans their right to know what’s in their food. Because of Pepsi’s financial support, Prop 37 and GMO labeling lost by a narrow margin of 48.6% to 51.4%. Pepsi’s contribution was a direct assault on the American ideals of openness, transparency and democracy.

Now Pepsi is using celebrity endorsements and events like the Super Bowl Halftime Show to whitewash their deceptive brand, hiding behind the celebrity and popularity of Beyoncé to cover up their betrayal of democracy.

Take the pledge to boycott Pepsi's dishonest and deceptive brands, like Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Tropicana, Frito-Lays, Lays and Cheetos - and ask Beyoncé to end her celebrity endorsement of PepsiCo's junk food empire.

Stand up for Democracy and GMO labeling! Take a moment to tell Pepsi Executives why you won't be buying Pepsi products ever again and ask Beyoncé to end her endorsement of this dishonest and deceptive brand!

Dear Pepsi and Beyoncé Knowles,

I believe that labeling of genetically engineered foods is a basic democratic right and that corporations that stand in American's way of knowing what's in our food and the food that I feed my family are violating this basic right. Last year Pepsi executives chose to donate $2,485,400 to defeat Prop 37 to label genetically engineered foods in California.

By climbing in bed with giant chemical and biotech companies like Monsanto, DuPont and Dow Chemical, Pepsi, unwittingly joined some of the most corrupt and toxic companies on the planet to keep their consumers in the dark about what's in our food.

As the number three contributor behind the campaign to defeat Prop 37, Pepsi's contribution to the deceptive and dishonest campaign was significant and a main reason that Americans are still denied their right to know what's in their food after 20 years of a politically engineered loophole at the FDA.

I'm outraged that Pepsi would chose to betray the American people by donating against transparency, openness and democracy in our food system and have no choice but to boycott their products as long as they are publicly against GMO labeling and use their corporate profits to deny fellow Americans our right to know what's in our food.

Today, I'm standing with citizens everywhere to join Food Democracy Now!'s boycott of Pepsi products and am willing to spend a considerable amount of time telling my friends and family to stand with me by educating them about how Pepsi's main junk food products promote obesity and contain gobs of unlabeled GMOs.

I also find it appalling and the height of hypocrisy that corporations like Pepsi already label their products in 63 countries around the world, but refuse to do so here in America. It's outrageous that Pepsi is willing to conform to laws informing citizens in Russia, China, South Africa and India that their products contain genetically engineered ingredients, but not only refuse to do so in America, but actively work to undermine our democracy.

I'm also writing to ask that Beyoncé Knowles formally end her relationship with Pepsi and their dishonest and deceptive brand. I can't imagine how a friend of President Obama's and the First Lady's could honestly promote healthy choices for children by supporting both Michele Obama's Let's Move campaign and Pepsi.

I want PepsiCo to support our right to know what's in the food we're eating by supporting GMO labeling. Until then, I'm here to join the boycott against Pepsi and Refresh Democracy and I'm going to ask all my friends and family to do the same!
